ADDITIONAL DETAILS

On Sunday, we will take the opportunity to work in the lo’i, a traditional Hawaiian taro farm. This experience isn’t just about farming—it’s about connecting with the land, the culture, and the broader community.
In Hawaiian tradition, the land (‘āina) isn’t just something we use—it’s a living part of us, providing everything we need for survival. The concept of kuleana (responsibility) reminds us that we are stewards of the land, and our relationship with it is built on reciprocity: we give back as much as we take. Working in the lo’i is a direct way to practice this balance, helping to restore a system that’s been central to Hawaiian culture for centuries.
Kākoʻo ʻŌiwi, the nonprofit we will be working with, has restored productivity to approximately six acres of loʻi kalo (irrigated terraces for the production of kalo) and has cleared an additional twenty acres for mala (dryland) for diversified agriculture.
Working in the lo’i is a reminder that everything is interconnected – whether you look at human’s interconnectedness with the earth or our AAPI community’s interconnectedness with each other. Hopefully, this will allow you to reflect on your place within these ecosystems and think about how you can give back.
Lunch | Reflections on LPO with Virtual Guest, Jigar Shah

Dinner | Lifting Each Other Up

Now that we've had the opportunity to discuss our shared AAPI experiences and develop meaningful relationships, it's time to get to the core of this conference: Our Kuleana.
In Hawaiian, "Kuleana" refers to a sense of responsibility, privilege, and stewardship. As leaders in this space, what is our responsibility to give back and uplift other up-and-coming AAPI climate tech leaders? What are some tangible outputs for us as we leave this place?
